While the criteria for becoming a model varies according to the type of modeling you want to do, a few standards are required of all models.
Models typically need to have clear skin, healthy hair and a nice smile.
After the basics, each type of modeling has more specifics things they are looking for.
Actors and commercial models have a much broader range when it comes to size, height and age. Height and weight don’t factor much either, but in general you should be a well-proportioned, attractive, real person that can act and play different characters. Commercial models can be older, shorter, and heavier without being extremely beautiful. Having an “interesting” personality and generic good looks is most common and often enough to get work.
Normally, the commercial model/actor are cast to play roles like the grandmother, suburban mom, businessman, the cowboy, doctor or
executive and they generally depict an idealized versions of these roles.
Other factors that can help a commercial model/actor are an outgoing personality, acting ability, flexibility, and good self-presentation skills.
