Do You Need A Corporate Headshot

or

Do You Need Executive Portraiture?

Corporate headshots are typically used to present a professional image of a company representative. Organization executives and managers are excellent examples of people who commonly have corporate headshots produced.

The corporate headshot is a photo of only the subject’s head and shoulders. Traditionally, these portraits are produced within a staged environment, such as with studio lighting and a plain or patterned background. A traditional style headshot will have the subject posed while making eye contact with the camera.

There are always exceptions to the traditional style of corporate headshot photography, such as lifestyle style or executive portraiture style. Some subjects prefer to be dressed in a fashion that better represents their profession or industry; such as medical professionals or military and law enforcement officers.

Corporate headshot photos are commonly used for various materials such as business cards, information circulars, annual reports, press releases, and advertising. Headshots are also often used for social media web sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and other sites where images are used for profiles and avatars. As well, headshots are used for display in executive head offices and corporate directories.

Headshots are just one of many other types of corporate photography. Other types of corporate photography include executive portraits, annual report photography, event and convention photography, catalog and product photography, architectural photography, and corporate editorial photography.

Executive portraiture is photography that offers a contextual representation of a person and how that person is represented within an organization.

For example, a portrait of a top level executive in a large law firm might be produced to show a subject dressed in a dark suite, while the subject is positioned standing next to a large bookcase of law books, or possibly sitting at a large desk. In this example, the context would be to represent the subject in a position of leadership in a professional corporate environment.

Executive portraiture is not  limited to any particular style of photography, such as traditional or lifestyle photography styles. The goal of an executive portrait is to produce an image the best depicts the subject within the context, or purpose, that the subject represents within organization, as in the example above. Variables such as the role and title of subject within the organization, the nature of the organization’s business, the number of subjects in the portrait, and many other factors contribute to the overall theme or message that the portrait is meant to express.

“Thank you, thank you for my headshots. As a fellow photographer, I know the effort that went into my appointment. Your attention to details and your talents are reflected in the finished product. As this was a new experience for me, being on the lens side of the camera, I appreciated your professionalism as you walked me through the entire process. When I received the finished product, I was amazed as to the quality of your work. I can honestly say that these are the only pictures of myself that I truly love.”
